All plumbing tends to get clogged at some time or another, making periodic drain cleaning a necessity for keeping your pipes running clean. However, if your pipes seem to constantly be getting clogged, you might need to practice some better plumbing maintenance. Here are our tips to keep your pipes as clear as possible.

How to Avoid Needing Frequent Drain Cleaning in Your Home

  • Avoid dumping grease down your drain. Grease hardens when cool, so it will make your pipe’s circumference smaller and allow other debris to get more easily stuck in the pipe. Avoid dumping food debris down your kitchen drain as much as possible.
  • Run hot water down your drain when you are cleaning up after meals to prevent grease build-up and hard water deposits. Every once in a while, dump baking soda down the drain, followed by vinegar, followed by boiling water.
  • Check your bathtub stopper every few months for hair and soap residue build-up. Replace if necessary. Fill your bathtub with water and then pull the plug and let the water drain all at once. The weight and volume of the water will flush the pipe.
  • Avoid using chemical cleaners to flush out clogged drains. With repeated use, the chemicals can corrode the pipes and cause damage to your plumbing. You can try unclogging your drain by using the baking soda and vinegar method described above. You can also use natural-based cleaners for drain cleaning, but if these don’t work, you’ll need our professional services.
